Ruby Bridges encourages all families and community members to volunteer. Opportunities are available both on campus and at home, through PTA programs or directly with teachers and staff.
You can:
Help in the classroom or at home with prep work
Help in the library
Volunteer for lunch/recess duty
Chaperone field trips
Support PTA-managed activities
All on-campus volunteers and field trip chaperones must register online through AUSD’s volunteer system. This process lets you select where you’d like to volunteer and upload required documents in a few easy steps.
Visit the AUSD Volunteering page to learn about the three levels of volunteer clearance and register for the school year.
You must re-register every year through AUSD's volunteer system. The system will have your previously submitted documents on file. You do not need a new LiveScan conducted (only needs to be done once for AUSD). You do not need another TB clearance if it was completed within the last 4 years.
If this is your first time:
Registration on AUSD's volunteer system. Additional requirements may apply (see below) based on the type of volunteer work you plan to do.
LiveScan fingerprinting for AUSD (only needs to be done once; records stay active for the length of your student’s time at Alameda Unified). LiveScan can be done at various businesses (here) in Alameda and fees may vary. If fees are a hardship, contact PTA for assistance.
TB Risk Assessment or negative TB test (required every 4 years if volunteering more than twice a year on campus).
Processing typically takes 2–3 weeks. Always verify with the school office that all your documents have been cleared before volunteering.
No. Even if you’ve been cleared through Little League, Girl Scouts, or other organizations, you must also complete LiveScan through AUSD. Results are not shared between databases.
They comply with state law and are in place to protect children, staff, and volunteers. Thank you for following them and sharing your time with Ruby Bridges!
